#EtisalatBeachCanteen #Dubai

With so much of excitement that is being hyped up, I was curios to know what all is happening around Dubai for the Dubai Food Festival. Something that was differently marketed was the #EtisalatBeachCanteen #DubaiChefsTable #DubaiRestaurantWeek #BoxPark and so on.

The pictures on their facebook page and all the details that kept poping up on the facebook notifications, made me make my choice for visiting this part of the Food Festival. This takes place at Kite Beach right next to The Salt.

Well, we spent a good 90 to 100 mins at this free-to-attend event, parking was easy to find. Although we parked like a 10 min walk away thinking that we’d not get parking, but parking wasnt that bad at all. The GPS location that was mapped on their FB page wasn’t accurate. And I noticed a lot of people posting questions on their page asking for details on the location. They weren’t all that prompt while replying back to queries on the page. They have plenty of stuff going on on different days like:
1. Open Mic Night
2. Story Telling By The Sea
3. Food and Film
4. Fitness Classes
5. Celeb Chef in Action
6. Market Week

When we got off the car, we realized that I was wearing Superman and Nikhil was wearing a Batman tshirt and this just formed to be the Bodyguards of Cleona.

We were 3 of us that visited around the place at around 7pm on 26th February 2016. The participating vendors at Etisalat Beach Canteen were: Jambo’s Grill, Ting Irie, Pinza, Shawarma Station, Karak House, Moshi, Classic Burger Joint, Mantoushe, Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, WOFL, The Shebi, The Hot Dog Stand, Barsalata, Khameer & Dough, Mokha 1450, Haagen Dazs, and Sugarmoo.

We took a round through all the outlets which took us like 10-15 mins. With the variety that they had to offer, we settled down to order from Ting Irie, Moshi, Karak House, Classic Burger Joint, Khameer and Dough.

We Stepped into Moshi and the guys just told us that they have to clear up the previous orders so we have to wait for about 30 – 45 mins, we were hungry and thought that we’d pass this and head to another vendor. We then head to Khameer and Dough, they had a lovely filled bun freshly baked i guess and we opted for 3 of them namely filled with Pizza, Potato and Cream Cheese with Oman Chips. Each of them were priced at Dhs 8 each. The Pizza and Oman Chips stood out from these 3. Further to indulge into our cravings, we hopped onto to Classic Burger Joint. Surprisingly, they had just 2 burgers to choose from – Chicken Classic Grilled Burger or Beef Burger. I just went for the Chicken as Cleona could also share and have a go at it. They kept us on wait for 10 mins, it was priced at 45 dhs and a can of 7up costed us 8 Dhs. I definitely found this expensive and overpriced. While we were waiting for this Burger, we were exploring few more options and Nikhil decided to go for the Crab Stick Sushi from Moshi although they had a 30 minute wait, he went on to order it. As all our food had not reached us yet, we decided to look around the entertainment zone and Live Station where there were some brands selling hotdogs.

We then seen this lady walking around with ‘trust me the most delicious looking chicken on her plate’. We went on peeping into her plate to understand where did she order it from and we guessed that it was from Ting Irie, We went in to have a look at their menu and we found that dish right there. It was Called Jerk Chicken, we had a quarter portion that costed us Dhs 40 and a Fresh Coconut Water was for about Dhs 25.
20160226_194350 20160226_194347

By this time all our respective foods were ready and getting a table wasn’t all that difficult. The venue was clean and house keeping were seen always active. To Finish off our meals, we got 3 Karak Teas from Karak House that was priced at Dhs 8 each.

All Set

All Set

The Chicken Classic Burger was the best for me and Cleona, Nikhil liked the 2 pcs of Crab Stick Sushi that came along with its dips and sauces. The Jerk Chicken wasn’t piping hot and probably that what just made us not like it that much. It came long with a pc of Watermelon, a lovely Pineapple salad and coleslaw. The tea tasted great there after. We were stuffed with the meals we ordered and went for a walk along the beach to settle of full tummies.

IMG-20160226-WA0023 20160226_192827

On the whole, the experience was Just alright. Its the kind of food that anyone would have found in a Mall here in Dubai. It had the same concept – order your food, wait for it to get ready, collect it and then find a table to sit down.

Drawbacks –
When we were around, there must have probably been about 250 to 300 people across this entire Canteen area, this area had just one washroom with a total of 4 doors (2 for men and 2 for women) Although we men finish our job pretty fast normally, the ladies washroom had a very very long waiting line. The washroom was not part of this BEach Canteen, it was the public beach washroom. They should have arranged for something exclusive for the visitors of the #EtisalatBeachCanteen
We were expecting more of local street food set up and cuisines, more like a canteen setup, more like street food, more like salsa, more like masala, more like live stations, more like food trucks and so on…

Atleast when we were around, the only entertainment visible was a Movie that was being played in an open theater format and there were couple of families that were watching the movie. Some sponsor led games seen some guys winning some prizes. All Details can be found on https://www.facebook.com/events/1692480381028322/

It was a good experience, but on the whole, its good for a one time visit only.

~PeaceOut.

The Pre – Event Experience of a Music Festival – Electric Love Festival 2015

After last years visit to the Music Festival – Defqon 1 at Biddinghuizen, Netherlands, it was early in February of 2015, We friends and Family – Cleona, Hansel, Fiona, Harry, RichaRoy, Keisha, Clevin, FalenDaniel (Victoria, who later on joined us) and Denzil were planning another Festival to Attend in 2015. Like any other group of music Lovers, we all discussed for Tomorrowland in Boom, Belgium first, then went on to Tomorroworld in USA and Mysterland in Netherlands. Some of us managed to get hold of tickets and some didn’t manage to get. Then due to dates and some other reasons, we scrapped the idea Tomorrowland. It was then again down to which Festival to attend. We then thought of Ultra Music Festival in Croatia, somehow, we didn’t like the fact that this festival is more of a Concert feeling as compared to a Festival Vibe. UMF’s show was in a stadium, Camping was 20KM away, line up was not so good, After parties and pre-parties were away at different beaches, but just for the heck of Croatia, we thought lets go. We did some back end search for hotels, flights, stay, etc Until I went to Q-Dance’s website to see if they have any other good hardstyle Festival along with regular EDM as i Love Hardstyle music and UMF didn’t wouldn’t have it. I seen this new festival on its website called Electric Love Festival that takes place in Austria. Fortunately, It happens to take place on the same dates as UMF in Croatia, that’s from 10th to 12th July. But ELF happens in Austria in between a Race Circuit. Thats crazy to think off. Just 2 years into this Festivals existence and gearing up for the 3rd year, I went on to discover that for the first time ever, Q-Dance stage will be at Electric Love Festival. Usually Q-dance is hosted by ID&T at their own festivals only. Tomorrowland and Mysteryland will be a famous example. ID&T are interceptors of the biggest festivals around the globe like Sensation, Tomorrowland, Mysteryland, OneTribe, Welcome To The Future, Energy and so on.
The first thing that caught my attention at Electric Love Festival was Multistage – 1 being Q-dance, 1 being the regular EDM Music – MainStage, 1 being Deep House and other 2 hadn’t been announced at that time. I went on to see the artist line up that had been announced and it had the below artist on their first announcement.

Phase 1 of 4 Line up - Electric Love Festival

Phase 1 of 4 Line up – Electric Love Festival

This was enough to get us excited for this festival, plus Race Circuit, Camping, Pricing, Facilities, Location, Austria and the works just got us all to say a “YES” for this festival. Once that was confirmed, we all booked our Festival Tickets respectively. Croatia still becomes a part of our itinerary and we plan to visit this beautiful city right from Split to the Islands of Hvar, Bol and Supetar post the Festival.

From our experience of the past festival that we attended, we already knew what all we needed to carry and what all not to. So all of us just took that lightly. This Year we have a larger flag to show off and some props to ensure we’re in the aftermovie of this festival.

Early in April they announced the 3rd line up and not later did they announce the final artist line up. Let me tell you, This was dope. Just have a look at the line up:
4

Some of you EDM lovers will relate to what am talking about, such a sick line up. Just try this. Close your eyes and name any 4 artists just randomly. I challenge you that 2 of them will be here in this list. When the final list was announced, we all went bonkers and we were like “where all do we go mahn, how do we spread out to make sure we go for all the artists.” but anyways, lets just leave that to D’ day.

Just to give you an idea of how this venue looks like before & after the start of the Festival. Its Insane. here check it out:

All of us now are in the process of acquiring our Schegen visa from respective countries. BTW just to let you know, the current fact sheet of the Festival looks amazing and surprising:
1. Just 100 out of 100000 plus tickets have been sold within Asia. From these 100, there are visitors only from Indonesia, South Korea, Pakistan, India and United Arab Emirates. From these 5 countries, UAE has the highest number of visitors to ELF.
2. People from 35 Different nations will be participating at Electric Love Festival.
3. 35000 people will be staying within the camp site.
4. Addition of 2 more stages – Robin Schulz & Friends Stage and Heineken Star Club.

Electric Love Festival is an Initiative and presentation by Revolution Events, https://www.revolutionevent.com/

I dunno why and what, but there is something different about this festival. Am not quite sure what it is. Let me experience it and tell you soon. That’s it from our pre-event experience. Once we’re back, i’ll post you with the Post Event Experience. You have no idea how elaborate that’s gonna be. Adios.

The Journey from Mumbai to Dubai

Rough & Confusing Days at a Private Event Firm in Mumbai, need for International Exposure, Career Growth, getting closer to Love Life are few of the reasons that led me to take this step to enter into a different market along with developing my career into Events.

It was this Group of people that had to adios with before I Could leave Mumbai and head to Dubai

It was this Group of people that had to adios with before I Could leave Mumbai and head to Dubai

Reached Dubai in September 2013, had my CV in order and did a master research for the Events Business & scope in Dubai after reaching Dubai. I came here, partied for 6 days at a stretch and then did my job hunt. The industry here is next level if you compare it to whats happening in India. Whether it be, Television, Radio, Events, Hospitality, etc, its all up tight and nothing close to what the standards & technologies used back home. But every place has its charm. Because my immediate past working experience was all about Music and  Events, I wanted to excel into the same field but do something more than what i had learnt in my career so far. Close to 200 emails were sent out from my email account to about 140 to 160 Event, Music, Radio, Television, Media  & Production Companies. Just about 10% of them got back, 9% out of that were companies that entertained and met me because I used some influence via friends, neighbors, acquaintances, family & old colleagues to get through HR. Am thankful to these people for removing time to meet me cause people normally do not do that here in Dubai. That balance 1% was the one that created the Spark, Was interviewed by a few companies and given an offer then and there. I was in a take it or leave it situation many times as i felt that there were chances for other employers to get back to me and didn’t know what would be the best for my growth. Due to the paucity of time and a good vibe when i gave my interview, my gut feeling took me to YAK Events. I had no idea who they were and what they were into, but from what I pictured them from the outside and what experience i hold today with them, I thank my stars for the exposure they’ve provided. Do realize that this was the only Employer that I met without any influence and things connected. All the other things like – how to work, what to work and whom to work for and stuff fell into place eventually.

Its not a struggle to get to work with a good employer, its just your continuous effort and positive approach that you get while your at work. Although I’ve heard of innumerable situations of Hire and Fire policy here in the gulf, its not like back home. Results have to be shown, results have to multiply. Network needs to increase. Recognition becomes a part of this journey then and you find your self in this great exposure that you don’t feel like leaving. You feel connected, you feel family. You might call in your comfort zone, but that’s what it turns out to be once you’ve done your bit. The appreciation and tap on your back is what makes you go the extra mile each time.

So yeah, that all well happened on the work front. Now Obviously, when you travel to any location whether for a job or for a visit or to meet some people, the next thing that comes to your mind after booking your tickets is “where am i gonna stay”. Its not like back home where anyone and everyone welcomes you home with arms wide open whether its party, or a drink or a movie session or a Play Station game or lets play some cards, etc… Its a little different and conservative if i have to say. And people follow a time table.

My Mom’s brother Deepak helped me stay along with his friend. We were 3 of us staying and sharing an apartment. Rent per month normally in a sharing decent house sheds of about AED 1500 to AED 2000 (Rs 25000 to Rs 35000 per person). I spent about 11 odd months in this apartment and bonded greatly with Nikhil, Jigar & Savio. I was blessed to have being staying along with them and they treated me like brother. We had the best bachelor days of our lives i must say. This below was the kind of room i was staying in earlier just to indicate what you get what you pay for.

IMG-20140821-WA0038

I’ve now moved out of this place, rented up a place at Centrium Tower, IMPZ, opp Sports City and staying with my beautiful wife Cleona. i dont have pictures of it, but here is a link to what one of the walls looked like as it was designed by Cleona.

They Say, you cant clap with one hand….

Food – I can go on and on… There is so much of variety, its mainly because you have close to 200 nationalities staying in Dubai. Coming from a land of spices, obviously Indian and Pakistani cuisine topped my list of everyday restaurant. When i stayed as a bachelor with these boys, i usually ate and loved eating out for the obvious reason – You save time of cooking, you dont have to clean your mess, you get what you want on your table, etc. Saying that, a decent meal like a biryani would come for about AED 20 (Rs 340), but you get so many side dishes along with it and that too it comes without a price. So normally when you order for a main dish like a kebab or biryani or pulav, the waiters normally also come along with some salad, dal and curry. They make sure you feel good and full by the time you leave. Nothing like a rainbow chai to end your meal. Now that comes for AED 1 (Rs 17). Can you believe spending Rs 17 for a Cutting Chai ??? SO thats the kind of Ratio of expense here when you compare it to India. You guys have no idea that over time, Local Arabic Food became my favorite. I still Love it. The Shawarma’s, The Falafels, The Hummus with Olive Oil. These things you cant miss out on. and its a Lay man food here. Like how you have Vada Pav back in Mumbai, out here its the Shawarma. Shawarma varies from AED 5 to AED 10 (Rs 80 to Rs 170) depending upon location and also Restaurant. I wish i Could share with you the ictures of the Kind of food that i have had, but there is so much to explore that i definitely do not know where to start from. All you will find Cafeteria’s at every junction. They are basically a copy of McDonalds, Or KFC offering burgers, fried chicken, fish and fries and they excel in making fresh Juices. You cannot go hungry in Dubai. Thats why you generally put on weight when in the gulf. I have not yet tried the Philopino Cuisine and maybe i might not end up trying it also. Egytpian Rice is great. Its combination of Rice, Noodles, Spaghetti. Its Called Koshari and its the most populated food I can say. When i say populated i mean it has – Rice, Noodles, Macroni, fried Onions, Peas, Black Dals, Tomato sauce (not ketchup), Chilly Flakes, Vinegar and atleast another 12 spices. A Take Away comprises of at-least 6 boxes, you then end up mixing these contents depending on what you like or dislike. i had it once, wanted to have it more, but never got the chance or maybe i just forgot about it. I was offered to eat this by one of the Bouncers and promoters working for Mamma Mia during their Tour in Dubai that YAK Events organised. You also get the Indian Chinese here and it takes you back to those Discovery Days in Andheri. You will not be short of India or Mumbai restaurants here. Almost all the top chain of restaurants like Mahesh Lunch Home, Kobe Sizzlers, Mumbai Chowpatty, Haji Ali, Jumbo Vadapav, Persian Darbar, Moti Mahal, etc are here. There is this place called Burdubai, where i used to stay earlier, trust me, you’ll feel like your staying in Juhu or Andheri Station.

Dubai Is a beautiful city, I term Dubai as – You respect this city, this city will much respect you back. You do your bit and this city gives much more than that back. There is nothing as Mandavli out here. It is strict for the very right reason. But every reason has a fee to be paid for. A Nominal fee like crossing the road (Jay Walking) at a non designated crossing will fetch you a fine of AED 200 (Rs 3400) and it goes higher for other silly things (as per you) that you commit as breaking local laws here. Its improves you as a person for sure. Dubai fines listed here.

There’s so much to do in Dubai. Firstly getting your Drivers license is so damn important and difficult, specially when your a working individual. A Friend Richard helped me out for a quicker response. Drivers license takes a good 60 to 150 days to procure, depending upon your past driving experience. Get this knocked off as soon as you touch Dubai, its worth the investment of about AED 6000 (Rs 1,00,000) if your a fresher and about AED 4500 (Rs 75000) if you have driven in the past for more than 2 years back home. I got my 2 wheeler license first at about AED 4000 (Rs 65000) cause I was eagerly waiting to ride the roads of Dubai…. I did a couple of short rides here and there, although i need to catch up to a Harley soon.

Dubai has so much to explore and it cannot be done in just months, eventually and gradually, you can keep ticking off things from your To DO list. i had the company of few friends like Roy, Joshua, Brendan, Prashant, Krisann, Nikhil, to knock of some of the basic cravings from my list that were swimming,
